I created DEADWOOD by using multiple layers of thick paint, using tools such as pencils and toothpicks to help create the 3D bumps on the dinosaur (Carnotaurus), silver buttons and cacti.

DEADWOOD

This is a painting inspired by the movies The Beast from Hollow Mountain (1956) and The Valley of Gwangi (1969), except instead of cowboys fighting the dinosaurs, they ride them instead, an alternative to horses.

Night Scenes:

Do Not Seek Absolution is part of a "night series" including “Y aunque la vida me cueste, Llorona, No dejaré de quererte”, where both black and white charcoal was used to give the effect of a night sky filled with glowing moons and several stars, making the main subjects of the art, drawn with graphite, pop.

The Races

Most of the graphite and charcoal pieces were inspired by westerns and my story A Wyatt and A Fleetwood. Many of the drawings feature monster hunting cowboys, outlaws, horses, with events and settings that are both historical and made up.

Many pieces, like DEADWOOD, are inspired by music and movies. Purification is inspired by "American Distillation" by Woody Jackson and the setting of the calvary outpost in Spirit Stallion of the Cimarron.

Like comics, for these pieces, only pen was used. With only one medium and two shades; white and black, the use of mark making came in handy to shade and create the effect of different materials that the characters are wearing.
